When I first spawned into a fresh Terraria world, I had little more than a copper shortsword and a few torches, and those opening hours felt brutal. Now, after many worlds and years of updates, I have learned that Hardmode is where the real arms race begins. The game throws an overwhelming amount of flashy loot at you once the Wall of Flesh falls, but only a handful of swords and pickaxes are genuinely worth crafting, farming, or carrying into the endgame. As a dedicated melee and mining player in 2026, I still rely on a core set of tools that balance speed, damage, range, and utility. Below are the blades and digging tools I trust against Moon Lord, Martian Saucers, the Empress of Light, and everything else Hardmode can throw at me.

Swords That Carry Me Through Hardmode

In my experience, a good sword needs raw damage, fast swing speed, and enough knockback to keep aggressive enemies off my back. These blades have proven themselves across dozens of boss fights.

Terrablade

The Terrablade is the classic ultimate sword fantasy. I craft it by merging the True Night's Edge, True Excalibur, and a Broken Hero Sword on PC; on console I only need the first two. It hits for 115 base damage on PC with heavy knockback and a very fast swing. Even on mobile and console where its damage drops to 95, the speed and knockback make it a reliable bossing weapon.

Brand of the Inferno

This is not the hardest-hitting blade on paper, but its rapid swing rate creates surprisingly high damage over time. On PC and mobile it deals 85 base damage, while console versions see 44. I farm it from the Ogre during the Old One's Army event. The sword also lights enemies on fire, and its strong knockback helps me control crowds when event waves start piling up.

Influx Waver

Despite some old labeling confusion, the Influx Waver is absolutely a sword. It ranks among the highest-damage blades in Terraria and fires fast projectiles at 110 damage per hit. I obtain it from Martian Saucers during Martian Madness, an event I trigger by finding a stray alien probe in the sky. The projectile speed is excellent for keeping distance in open arenas and for shredding airborne bosses.

Starlight

The Empress of Light drops Starlight in the Hallow, and this sword is a favorite of mine for its lightning-fast strikes. It has a speed value of 18 and a critical hit chance of 14 percent. With melee speed and damage buffs from accessories and potions, Starlight can outpace many later-game weapons in sustained fights. I love using it when I want a lightweight, high-crit alternative to heavier blades.

Chlorophyte Claymore

Chlorophyte is one of the strongest ores I can mine, requiring 200 percent pickaxe power. The claymore I craft from Chlorophyte bars deals around 95 base damage and launches a green orb for extra ranged pressure. It is a fantastic stepping stone after the mechanical bosses but before I can access post-Plantera gear. I respect it for giving me both direct melee hits and a useful projectile.

Pickaxes That Keep My Progression Moving

Mining speed and block range matter more than many players realize. The faster I can cut through ore veins and access new materials, the quicker I can craft the next tier of gear. These are the pickaxes I prioritize once Hardmode begins.

Orichalcum Pickaxe

After the Wall of Flesh dies and I smash Corruption or Crimson altars, Orichalcum or Mythril appears in my world. I consider the Orichalcum Pickaxe the first major Hardmode mining upgrade because it reaches about 165 percent pickaxe power compared to Mythril's 150. It lets me begin cutting through tougher early Hardmode materials comfortably.

Titanium Pickaxe

If my world spawns Titanium instead of Adamantite, I craft this next. It has slightly more pickaxe power than Orichalcum and hits harder, with 27 base damage compared to Orichalcum's 17 and Adamantite's 20, while keeping a very similar mining speed. This is my bridge pickaxe before I make the jump to the 200 percent power tier.

Pickaxe Axe

The Pickaxe Axe is one of my favorite utility tools because it combines mining with axe power. It is one of the four early Hardmode pickaxes that can mine Chlorophyte, and it has 110 axe power, so I do not need to carry a separate axe. I craft it with one Soul of Fright, one Soul of Might, one Soul of Sight, and 18 Hallowed Bars. The 35 base damage on swings is a nice bonus if a cave bat interrupts my mining.

Spectre Pickaxe

Among the four starting Hardmode pickaxes that can break Chlorophyte, the Spectre Pickaxe has the longest block range. That extra distance lets me mine from a safe ledge without repositioning as often. It deals 32 base damage and is crafted from 18 Spectre Bars at a Mythril or Orichalcum anvil. I make Spectre Bars by combining Chlorophyte Bars and Ectoplasm, which I farm from Dungeon Spirits.

Shroomite Digging Claw

Once Plantera is down and the Truffle NPC sells the Autohammer, I turn Glowing Mushrooms and Chlorophyte Bars into Shroomite Bars to craft this claw. It shares the 200 percent pickaxe power with other high-tier tools but offers far more damage and knockback. For rapid excavation and large mining projects in Hardmode, it is one of the fastest feeling tools in the game.

At the end of the day, Hardmode rewards preparation. I never regret spending extra time to craft the Terrablade or farm a Shroomite Digging Claw, because those tools make the endgame grind far less painful. The key is to match your pickaxe upgrades with your sword progression, so you are never stuck mining too slowly or hitting a boss with a weapon that has already fallen behind.
